Off-the-shelf ciders

With still a dozen ciders still to taste, here is a cider map I have been working on from a tasting sessions I have had over the last few weeks. I have some local ciders to try, but the ones on the map are the ciders most commonly available in Perth:

  1. Are you only trying bottled ciders. There are a number on tap varieties available in most pubs. But that could be another few weeks of testing :)

  2. Of course this is a sweeping generalisation - but I've found most of the commercial stuff made in Australia is in the squeeky clean mould - a little bit of green apple and citrus, little length and a jolt of tartness.

The european examples - UK, French - tend to have more funk - mushroom, microbes etc.

There is the popular Rekorderlig range - which is just like drinking alcoholic cordial.

  3. That pretty much reflects my experience thus far - I've got a place where I can get some more rustic styles and I hope to get some cider from Somerset and France, hopefully in a more rustic style.
