Perth is quirking up.
There has been a recent trend towards more relaxed cafes serving good coffee, as well as some new and very serious cutting edge coffee places.
Near our office we now have one at the seriously fun end of the great coffee spectrum.
Pony Express O was born in stable around Christmas time. Ok, it is a heritage listed stable and the cafe was brought to life a little before Christmas but you know. . .
Pony Express O is the latest thoroughbred from Garrett - responsible for the equally quirky and much loved Blink Coffee in Fremantle.

Pony Express O came about because of the stable more than anything else. It is tucked away in the car park of the Commonwealth Bank in Mayfair Lane West Perth and has two incredibly gleaming Wega 3-group beauties.

The first mistake I (and most people apparently) made was to find the usual 'customer' location with respect to the 'barista'. That is, on the other side of the espresso machine, not the business end. The way the two Wegas are arranged this is impossible and Garrett is quite keen to have the clientele interact and observe the entire coffee-making process.
Like Blink, if you have the correct change you just drop it down the chute and honesty is assumed. The rustic style of the stable is enhanced by plenty of shade, strategically placed astroturf and a vast timber farmhouse kitchen table just begging to be strategically planned upon - something my branch will be doing shortly.
There's no meal menu, although there are a few biscuits and muffins available. However you are also welcome to take your lunch and it is a very relaxing environment to slip away to.
Garrett is using coffee from Crema - a local WA roaster and winner of several medals at the 2009 Golden Bean competition. It's a great venue with loads of style and another boost to Perth's coffee scene.

If you drop in once you will be back!
