There is a great story in the entertainment section of The Age this morning by Gordon Farrer that follows his journey into stovetop/moka pot coffee.
He hits all the high points, talks to a range of people and includes their views - including Andy from Coffeesnobs.
I think it is one of the best coffee articles in the mainstream press that I have read for many years and I have to agree that the best coffee is the one made the way you like it.
I have struggled with the Moka pot more than any other method of preparing coffee and just can't seem to break into a good method - that said I haven't tried for a while and own four or five different varieties so I shall make further attempts to improve on my efforts.

Nice story.
I've got a single cup Bialetti that I bought at the Re Store in Northbridge. They have a really good selection of the Bialetti which I think for whatever reason is the best. I use it every weekend and I love it.
I put the flame on very low so it doesn't go up the sides, use a 'coarse' espresso grind and don't pack it in. I keep the lid open so some of the heat comes off the metal as it heats up. When the coffee pours out it's only a slow steady pour, not a spray fountain.
It's not an espresso machine but to me it's still a very nice way to make coffee. I also like the process and waiting and watching for the coffee to start pouring. It also tastes good poured into some warm milk.

The Gordon Farrer story was very interesting as well. I use a plunger at home and in the past have found myself accepting "coffee" at someone's home to later find out I was being served instant. These days, if I'm forewarned, I'd decline and go without than have instant. I had a guest at my place recently and was more than happy to make a brew for him - I don't usually have that late in the day - and he was surprised that I didn't have any instant in the house and said he'd be happy to have tea instead. Go figure. What the lady said in the article is dead right too - it's what you like.
