Having spent the day at home alternating between playing with the children and working, I missed all the crucial action at today's WA barista Championships.
I'm hoping to get along tomorrow for the latte art and cupping.
As I wasn't there I can't really say much about how it went - fortunately Matt at Abstract Gourmet was actually there and as a judge so he has a terrific rundown of the event and his usual collection of top-notch photos - all here. (Since some of the photos include Matt I suspect the presence of another great photographer at the event.
I am sure it was a real challenge to get it all together on such a short timetable - so congratulations to Ben Bicknell for getting it done. I think we must also especially congratulate all those who competed and managed to work up a routine at short notice.
Mark Chandler of the WA Barista Academy was the winner and will proceed to the Nationals early next year - congratulations to him for what I am sure was an outstanding performance.
I'll post up the full results when I get them from those who were there, right now sadly I have to go back and do a late-night stint on some documents so that I have a chance to get along to the Latte Art and Cupping tomorrow.

How is it that the organiser of this event is allowed to compete? This does not seem like a fair contest.
I feel that I know the people who were judging the competition well enough to vouch for their individual integrity in scoring the competitors.
